# basename

> Remove leading directory portions from a path.

- Show only the file name from a path:

`basename {{path/to/file}}`

- Show only the rightmost directory name from a path:

`basename {{path/to/directory/}}`

- Show only the file name from a path, with a suffix removed:

`basename {{path/to/file}} {{suffix}}`
