# mesg

> Check or set a terminal's ability to receive messages from other users, usually from the `write` command.

- Check terminal's openness to write messages:

`mesg`

- Disallow receiving messages from the write command:

`mesg n`

- Allow receiving messages from the write command:

`mesg y`
